Bio on Jen Marr

Thirteen years ago, after decades of working in international business, Jen found herself unexpectedly at the center of two tragedies: Sandy Hook and the Boston Marathon. One as a responder. One as a survivor. Four months apart. Both changed her forever.  These experiences stayed with her. In the weeks that followed, she saw how many people wanted to help but didn’t know how. We defaulted to silence, distance, or platitudes, not out of indifference, but out of uncertainty.  Jen realized that “showing up” wasn’t intuitive; it was a skill we hadn’t been taught.

What began as an observation became a movement.

Determined to find a solution, she dove into research on how people respond to distress and disruption—and why we aren’t reaching one another. It led to the creation of Showing Up LLC, a social good company dedicated to training, equipping, and empowering others to operationalize empathetic intentions into impactful action.

Jen was a featured speaker at the recent, wildly popular DisruptHR Milwaukee event in April.
