The Labor Market Impact on Talent Acquisition and Retention Strategies

with Thomas J. Walsh

Join us when Thomas Walsh, Labor Market Economist with the State of Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development provides a brief overview of the labor market and discusses workforce challenges.

We are facing a labor "quantity shortage" due to an aging population. The overall population is expected to increase while the size of the labor force will stay flat. The demographic challenges will make it difficult to meet overall demand in the economy and the labor supply.

HR professionals in Racine and Kenosha Counties are well aware of the growing competition for workers with all of the business growth in the area.

Topics will include:

  • The impact of population demographics on the economy.
  • High-level strategies for alleviating current and anticipated workforce quantity challenges.
  • Addressing barriers that prevent people from participating or fully participating in the labor market. For example: housing, transportation, childcare, and broadband.
  • How the limited labor supply will make it more difficult to find talented HR professionals.
  • The need for HR departments to rethink the way they attract talent and retain existing staff.
